On December 6, 2024 Gerald "Phipps" Stewart presented his capstone project titled "Meditation and Overcoming Karmic Determinism: A Practical Application of Jain Philosophy."

In 2024, Gerald "Phipps" Stewart was the first student at UNT to graduate with a Jain Studies Certificate from UNT. His project explored on the liberational potential of Jain contemplative practices as these relate to questions of free will and determinism. Phipps relied on his own background as a certified yoga instructor to build an experiential learning component into his project. He presented his research to students and faculty in the Department of Philosophy and Religion on December 6. His accompanying poster presentation was later displayed at the Jain Cultural Fair the following year.  Student giving a presentation
