What is true? And what is illusion? Who is the "real" you? And what is just an act?

The philosophical, religious, spiritual, and scholarly traditions of India address fundamental questions about life, the meaning of life, and the meaning of living well. In PHIL 3620, students explore the Vedic traditions known collectively as Hinduism today, the ascetic spiritual path of Jainism, and the 15th-century religious movement of Sikhism. Topics including philosophical views on the nature of reality, the meaning of spiritual liberation, and the practices like meditation and yoga that aim at spiritual attainment. We also consider the role of these traditional religious practices in emerging health and wellness movements, ecological initiatives, contemporary social life, and popular culture.
